Jakarta, March 13th 2017 - Archipelago International, Indonesia's leader in hotel management, this year celebrates its 20th anniversary. In 1997, founder Charles Brookfield set out with a vision to transform the industry. Over the course of the last two decades, Archipelago International made that vision a reality, as they pioneered the first condotel concept, started the budget hotel boom, championed cloud computing and jump started eCommerce in Indonesia before it became a household concept.

To this day Archipelago International is still driven by the entrepreneurial spirit of its founder, which has enabled the company to constantly push new boundaries, enter new markets and lead the way in Indonesia.  Starting with just 3 hotels, its expansion was unprecedented, opening a new hotel every 2 weeks for years until today, where it now stands in the top 100 hotel chains in the world, with a vast portfolio of 127 hotels across their 7 core brands; favehotel, NEO, Quest, Harper, Aston, Alana and Kamuela.

Archipelago International has served over 10 million guests over 35 cities, has grown to employ more than 12,500 employees, and manage over IDR 2 trillion in assets.  It now has corporate offices in Jakarta, Surabaya, Yogya, Bali, and Malaysia.  In addition, the company has over 100 hotels in the pipeline and some of the highest return on investment rates in the country.

Archipelago has introduced many industry-firsts throughout the years as well as noteworthy awards.  It was the first Indonesian hotel operatxor to achieve ISO 9001 Certification assuring its quality management systems.  It was the first to get 100 Mbps Free WiFi across the group. It was awarded as the "Best Hotel Group in the World", by the Salam Standard for Muslim friendly travel, also the "Most Popular MICE Hotel" for their Aston brand and the "Most Popular Budget Hotel" for their favehotel brand. Last year Archipelago launched the biggest giveaway in Indonesian history, giving away an entire year in free stays to its fans.

Each year the company continues to win awards for being the highest producing partner for various OTAs and travel agencies, and most recently awarded "Indonesian Travel Agents Preferred Chain" by MG Holidays, and the awards for the “Top of Mind” and the “Brand Used Most Often” for its Aston brand at the Indonesia Netizen Brand Choice Award 2017.

A key to its long standing success has always been its dedicated employees. The company’s motto to give delightful moments of heartfelt service and to focus on continuous improvement has empowered thousands of employees to have wildly successful and creative careers. Archipelago helps to develop, train and support their corporate and unit staff by offering more training hours than any other hotel operator, and some of the fastest opportunities for advancement.  They have been one of the few hotel chains who hires local staff almost exclusively for all their General Manager and HOD positions.

Continuing their efforts, Archipelago just launched the Archipelago Scholars Program.  It will provide even more financial and educational assistance to its corporate office employees and their dependents over the coming years.  The fund sits at IDR 5 billion showing the group's dedication and investment into employing the most motivated individuals in the industry.
