ARCHIPELAGO INTERNATIONAL CELEBRATES EARTH HOUR 2019

Archipelago International goes dark for a brighter future for the planet

Indonesia, 28 March 2019 -  Archipelago International, Indonesia's leading hospitality management company will support the single, largest global warming awareness initiative, Earth Hour, by switching off non-essential lighting in its 140 properties, on Saturday, 30 March, for one hour at 8.30pm local time. 

All hotels in Indonesia & Malaysia will participate in Earth Hour, from Penang - Malaysia to Kupang - Indonesia, joining 7000 cities in 178 countries in this global movement. To celebrate Earth Hour, the hotels will turn off unnecessary lights for one hour on 30th March 2019, inviting all guests to do the same and participate in the event. To further promote this campaign, Archipelago International hotels will also be hosting various run-up events, a roadshow Earth Hour in schools, workshops on how to recycle, yoga in the dark and also plenty of F&B promotions – all with the goal to illustrate how small steps taken today can make a huge impact on the sustainability of the earth in the future.

Many Archipelago International properties are staging a number of events for in-house guests and residents, to allow them to share in this inspirational global movement, and join the experience of working towards a greener environment. 

Aston Priority Simatupang Hotel & Conference Center 
Demonstrating its commitment to protecting the environment and fighting against climate change, Aston Priority Simatupang Hotel & Conference Center will host an event named “Earth Hour 2019: Glow In The Dark as a Light on Climate Action”. The hotel will turn off its lights within several main areas, including the restaurant, lobby and the hotel’s exteriors. There will also be several special performances held at Aston Priority Simatupang, including an acoustic musical performance from one of the nearby elementary schools, SD Kebagusan 01, using recycled materials as instruments. Mr. Sarnadi Adam, one of Indonesia’s famous artists, will also perform at the Earth Hour event by showcasing a Glow-In-The-Dark painting.

The Alana Hotel & Conference Center Sentul City  
In commemoration of Earth Hour 2019, all non-essential electric lights at The Alana Hotel & Conference Center Sentul City will be switched off in the restaurant and lobby for an hour from 8.30pm to 9.30pm. The Green Canyon Restaurant will also be offering a discount of up to 25% on its Earth Hour buffet dinner, alongside a live acoustic performance. Apart from switching off lights, the hotel will take things up a notch by bringing the community together for a yoga session by the pool. The glow-in-the-dark yoga session will welcome parents, children, hotel guests and the general public to commemorate this special occasion on a mindful note.

Aston Samarinda Hotel & Convention Center
During the light's out of Earth Hour, Aston Samarinda Hotel & Convention Center will be inviting guests to gather in the lobby to enjoy several performances from local artists, including a Dayaknese traditional dance and acoustic band performance. The hotel will also prepare a giant banner for guests to write down their actions and intentions to help create a better environment for the earth. To round off the celebration, special discounts on beverages will be awarded to guests who bring their own reusable straws to reduce plastic waste.

Aston Banua Hotel & Convention Center
Aston Banua Hotel and Convention Center will be participating in Earth Hour by turning off its lights for 60 minutes. To keep guests entertained, there will be many fun activities to get involved with, like sampling an assortment of traditional cuisine at the Angkringan (a traditional food stall), alongside traditional Panting music, poetry, fairy tales for children, and a live acoustic performance. 

Aston Sunset Beach Resort - Gili Trawangan
This Earth Hour, Aston Sunset Beach Resort - Gili Trawangan will host a series of an energy-saving events, including switching off all electrical signs and exterior lights, as well as dimming or turning off non-essential interior lights. In-house guests and the general public are also invited to get involved by joining a workshop on how to recycle and use clothes and plastic trash to make bracelets and bags. There’ll also be a beach cleaning session, sunset yoga and an acoustic music performance on the beach. 

Harper Perintis Makassar 
In support of Earth Hour, Harper Perintis Makassar will begin the festivities an entire week early with a "Harper Goes To School" roadshow, sharing knowledge about Earth Hour at nearby schools. Then, on March 30th, the hotel will go dark for one hour to shine a light on climate action, switching off all non-essential lights around the hotel. Guests are invited to join in by dimming their lights in their rooms and enjoying the special Satur-yay BBQ promotion at D'Veranda Terrace.
